How to Handle Pre-primary Classes Effectively

12 Dec 2025

1. Classroom Environment

Keep the classroom colorful, safe, and welcoming.

Display charts, alphabets, numbers, and pictures at eye level.

Arrange low-height furniture for comfort and accessibility.

2. Daily Routine & Structure

Start with greetings/songs to set a positive tone.

Follow a predictable timetable (circle time, playtime, story, snack, activity, goodbye song).

Use visual timetables so children know "what comes next."

 3. Teaching Methods

Use play-way method: songs, rhymes, games, puzzles.

Teach one concept in small steps, repeat with variations.

Use flashcards, toys, puppets, and storytelling.

4. Classroom Management

Use positive reinforcement: claps, stars, stickers.

Set clear, simple rules (sit in a circle, raise hand, share toys).

Redirect misbehavior with gentle reminders instead of punishment.

5. Activities & Engagement

Gross motor: jumping, dancing, yoga, outdoor games.

Fine motor: coloring, clay, threading beads, paper tearing.

Creative: drawing, singing, role play, craft work.

Cognitive: matching, sorting, building blocks, storytelling.

6. Social & Emotional Development

Encourage sharing, taking turns, and teamwork.

Acknowledge feelings: “I see you are sad. Let’s talk.”

Build confidence through praise and small responsibilities (line leader, helper).

7. Communication with Parents

Give regular updates about progress, behavior, and needs.

Suggest simple home activities (reading a story, counting fruits).

Encourage consistent routines at home (sleep, meals, play).

8. Teacher’s Attitude

Be patient, loving, and approachable.

Speak slowly and clearly.

Model good behavior (using polite words, sharing).
